색채의대가 마티스는 강렬하고 자유로운 색채로 '그림에서 색을 해방시켰다' 고 평가받는 야수파의 대표작가입니다. 마티스는 대담하고 신중한 컬러 사용했는데요. 단순한 빛의 차이가 아닌, 순색의 자연스러운 명암을 사용하여 빛을 창조했습니다. 이러한 마티스가 색을 대하는 모습이 저의 작품 표현방법과 닮아있다고 생각하여 재해석하게 되었습니다.  

<붉은방: 저녁식탁-붉은하모니 chambre rouge: la desserte - harmonie rouge> 1908 의 다른 화각에서의 모습을 상상하여 강렬한 색감과 다양한 질감의 실로 그려넣었습니다. 마티스의 작품속에서 자주 등장하는 화병과 창문, 갖가지의 가구들의 모티브를 등장시켜 마티스 세계관의 연속성을 표현하고 싶었습니다. 또한 생전에 동물들과도 가깝게 지냈던 모습도 반영하였습니다. 특히 마티스의 작품에 자주 등장하는 검은 고양이는 탈착형으로 제작되어 관객참여를 유도할 수 있도록 설계했습니다.  

이리 저리 옮기며 관람하는 관람객또한 작품의 재해석을 즐길 수 있습니다. 고양이를 안아들고 귀여워 해주셔도 괜찮습니다.(다만 강력한 자성을 지닌 검정고양이는 전자기기나 인공심장 박동기를 갖고계신분은 유의해주시기 바랍니다.)

The master of color, Matisse, is a representative artist of the Fauvist movement, who is said to have “liberated color from painting” with his intense and free use of color. Matisse used bold and careful use of color. He created light not by simply using different shades of light, but by using the natural contrast of pure colors. I thought that Matisse's approach to color was similar to my own method of expressing my work, so I decided to reinterpret it.

 I imagined the work from different angles in <chambre rouge: la desserte - harmonie rouge> with intense colors and various textures of thread. I wanted to express the continuity of Matisse's worldview by using motifs of vases, windows, and various furniture that often appear in Matisse's works. It also reflects the artist's close relationship with animals during his lifetime. In particular, the black cat, which often appears in Matisse's works, is designed to be removable and encourage audience participation.

Visitors who move around and view the work can also enjoy the reinterpretation of the work. It is also okay to pick up and pet the cat. (However, please be careful if you have an electronic device or an artificial heart pacemaker, as the black cat has a strong magnetic field.)
